Beyond Rescuing Food

Food Recovery Programs Beyond Rescue - Last Mile Food Rescue

Strategies for addressing food insecurity come in a variety of flavors. At Last Mile Food Rescue, we continue to search for new ways to live out our mission to end hunger and food waste in our community.

Last Mile On the Go: Repackaging Good Food

Imagine trays of pulled pork from a stadium after a game, mashed potatoes from a local hospital or chicken from a school cafeteria. Last Mile rescues large trays of prepared food and currently partners with Community Hub at Easterseals Redwood to repackage them into smaller grab-and-go containers for distribution to those in need.

At a time when 60 percent of food-insecure households report barriers to cooking meals at home, such as lack of kitchen access, time or resources, Last Mile On the Go offers relief.

  • 175,479 pounds of prepared food rescued and repackaged in 2024
  • 146,000 meals provided
