Market Operator
Part-Time | Cincinnati, Ohio | Reports to: Market Manager
About Last Mile Food Rescue
Last Mile Food Rescue is a Cincinnati-based nonprofit that operates on a simple thesis: hunger is a logistics problem. Since November 2020, we have rescued more than 18 million pounds of food and delivered nearly 16 million meals to neighbors in need — powered by a network of 400+ nonprofit agency partners, a dedicated volunteer corps, and a growing fleet operation.
We are a logistics-first organization scaling rapidly. This role helps make sure that growth translates into food reliably reaching the partners and neighbors who need it.
The Opportunity
The Last Mile Market brings rescued food directly into Cincinnati neighborhoods with limited access to fresh groceries. Our markets are free and open to all, with no ID or paperwork required, and shoppers choose from produce, dairy, deli and prepared foods, baked goods, and meat. The Market Manager sets the strategy for the markets. Market Operators run them every day.
The Market Operator is the Last Mile staff member in charge on site. You will drive the market van to neighborhood sites, set up and lead the market and guide the volunteers who make it happen, making sure every shopper is welcomed and served. On office days, you will help keep vans loaded, supplies stocked, and operations running smoothly.
This is a part-time role of up to 25 hours a week: three market days (about 15 hours) and one to two office days (up to 10 hours). Markets run Monday-Thursday in winter and Monday-Friday in summer. It is built for someone with strong hands-on operational and people skills who wants to see the direct impact of their work in the food that reaches our neighbors.

Lead shopper check-in, customer service, and restocking so every shopper has a welcoming, dignified experience
Break down the market, load the van, and leave each site clean
Volunteer & Community Engagement
Welcome volunteers, assign market roles (check-in, table runners, restock), and keep the team working together.
Build friendly, respectful relationships with shoppers, host partners, and neighborhood residents
Serve as eyes and ears in the field, sharing operational challenges and community needs with the Market Manager
Safety & Escalation
Follow the Last Mile Market Safety Procedures, de-escalation practices, and other Last Mile Market protocols.
Call the Market Manager for anything beyond routine, and immediately for any serious safety event
Report the facts of any accident, injury, or near miss to the Market Manager the same day of event.
